We report herein a case of rightmiddle-lobe adenocarcinoma with multiple F-FDG-avid lymph nodes in mediastinum. The patient is a 73-yearold housewife who has received right middle lobe lobectomy and extensive dissection of mediastinal lymph nodes. Pathologic examination of all the fortytwo lymph nodes dissected reveals anthracosis with reactive lymphoid hyperplasia. This example illustrates that F-FDG uptake of mediastinal lymph nodes in patients with non-small cell lung cancer may not be caused by malignancy.

18FDG PET/CT in pulmonary carcinosarcoma and brain metastasis

Carcinosarcoma is a rare type of cancer that is composed of a mixture of sarcomatous and carcinomatous elements. Pulmonary carcinosarcoma has a 25% five-year survival rate with a prognosis poorer than other non-small cell lung carcinomas. Herein, we report a case of pulmonary carcinosarcoma and its 18F-FDG PET/CT findings. A 61-year-old male patient presented with brain symptoms, including hea...

False positive 18F-FDG PET/CT due to active varicella zoster infection in a Hodgkin’s lymphoma patient

We report a case of Hodgkin lymphoma (classic type) referred for response assessment after two cycles of chemotherapy with ABVD regiment. The F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (F-18 FDG PET/CT) showed hypermetabolic cutaneous and subcutaneous lesions with a linear pattern in the left arm with significant F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron accumulation in associate with left axi...

Generalized lymph node activation after Influenza vaccination on 18F FDG-PET/CT imaging, an important pitfall in PET interpretation

We report on a 59-year-old female patient with an infected vascular graft investigated with 18F FDG-PET/CT. The first of two studies showed FDG activity in the left deltoid and ipsilateral axillary lymph nodes explained by influenza vaccination the day prior. The second 18F FDG-PET/CT showed multiple FDG-avid lymph nodes on both sides of the diaphragm without tracer accumulation at the vaccinat...

False-Positive Mediastinal Lymphadenopathy on 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography and Computed Tomography after Rectal Cancer Resection: A Case Report of Thoracoscopic Surgery in the Prone Position

(18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography and computed tomography (integrated FDG PET/CT) has been used to diagnose recurrence and differentiate postoperative changes from lymph node metastasis in colorectal cancer, although its accuracy is questionable. We report a prone thoracoscopic surgery for a rectal cancer patient in which false-positive mediastinal lymph nodes were fou...

Evaluation of ¹⁸F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake in enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes in patients with lung cancer.

Accurate lymph nodal staging of lung cancer is critical for determining the treatment options. With the help of (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computer tomography ((18)F-FDG-PET/CT), the clinician can rule out/in the regional lymph nodes positive for metastasis in the patients with lung cancer in a majority of cases. However, a small proportion of cases with false positiv...
